and The Quality in Careers Standard
Career Development Institute
The key alliance to note from Careers England's perspective is the CAREER DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (the CDI), which evolved from the work of the CAREERS PROFESSION ALLIANCE, and has led to the development of the national Register of career development professionals.
Background: In October 2010 the Careers Profession Task Force, chaired by Dame Ruth Silver (and Careers England's Paul Chubb served on this Task Force), published 'Towards a strong careers profession' which set out its vision for high quality careers education, information, advice and guidance. We provide here links to the CPTF's Report from DfE website and the 2 years on update report for information. The Task Force welcomed the establishment of the Careers Profession Alliance and went on to make recommendations about the future development of the Alliance as a single authoritative voice for the profession.
The CPA provided a unified voice for the careers profession in the whole of the UK. It led to the establishment in April 2013 of the CDI, superseding the following:
- Association for Careers Education and Guidance (ACEG)
- Association of Career Professionals International (ACPI)
- The Institute of Careers Guidance (ICG)
- National Association for Educational Guidance for Adults (NAEGA)
Whilst Careers England is not eligible for membership of the CDI, as a Trade Association and from its employer perspective, it is naturally both interested in and supportive of the CDI's work - especially the CDI's proposed framework of 'career development qualifications', and its REGISTER of 'career development professionals'.
Careers England's Workforce Development Task Group has particular links with the CDI on these matters as you would expect and keeps closely in touch with the CDI's professional development team. Careers England was pleased also to support the CDI winning oversight of the National Occupational Standards for career development.
